Accounting Manager (internally known as Accounting Team Leader)

Role Overview:

The Accounting Team Lead (Accounting Manager) is responsible for leading the cost accounting and inventory management functions and overseeing all aspects of cash management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. The Accounting Manager supports strategic decision-making through detailed financial analysis, capital financing initiatives, and audit coordination, while managing the performance and development of the Accounting team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead cost accounting and inventory management by enhancing and maintaining cost accounting procedures to enable accurate analysis and reporting of labour, overhead and raw materials
  • Own all aspects of cash management, including preparation and oversight of bank reconciliations, general journal entries, bank adjustments, cash receipts, collections, and disbursements, ensuring optimal liquidity and bank balance adequacy
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive budgeting, costing, and statistical analysis covering inventory levels, labor costs, gross margins, and asset utilization to support strategic decision-making
  • Deliver timely, accurate financial reporting and analysis to support business performance monitoring and forecasting
  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements, including the profit sharing report
  • Drive capital financing initiatives by supporting and participating in negotiations of short and long term capital financing, ensuring the maintenance of banking covenants monitoring the borrowing base report is prepared quarterly
  • Lead audit preparation and coordination, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors for financial audits
  • Manage the Accounting team’s performance and development, including onboarding, training and addressing performance concerns
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives by actively participating in cross-functional meetings and leading special projects as needed
  • Provide accounting support by stepping in to perform various roles, as required
  • Act as a strategic partner to senior leadership offering financial insight and operational support on key business matters

 

Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing-related role, preferably in a machine shop
  • Cost accounting experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Exposure to Visual Manufacturing and/or ERP systems is an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO systems
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills partnered
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner both verbally and in writing with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner
